We're Not Here to Just Make Shoes

We call them markers.

When we started KEEN in 2003, we said we'd do things differently. We'd bring people together, look out for each other, and take care of our planet. That's why we're in business. We just happen to make really good shoes.

  1. Marker No.1

    Live Together

We believe we can go further and have more fun, together. That we are one human race, and winning that race means working together.

  2. Marker No.2

    Be Original In Everything

From the products we create to the events we host, we like making things that have never existed before.

  3. Marker No.3

    Make Original Goods That Last

Our fans count on us to help keep them safe and comfortable, and we will not let them down.

  4. Marker No.4

    Do The Right Thing

We believe in being there for others in their time of need. That talk is cheap. We like to take action.

  5. Marker No.5

    Create With Conscience

We're changing the way shoes are made to reduce our impact on the planet.

We Make Shoes To Make A Difference

We're reducing the impact our shoes have on the planet and making the outside and the trades more accessible for all. We call it the "KEEN Effect."

Our Mission In Action

Be You. Be Wild. Be an Ally.

Trail running ambassadors

Meet Our Trail Running Ambassadors: Jeff Browning & Krissy Moehl

Legendary ultrarunners Jeff Browning and Krissy Moehl have joined the KEEN movement as trail running ambassadors!

Meet Our Trail Running Ambassadors: Jeff Browning & Krissy Moehl

Together, they bring a perspective shaped by decades of experience on the trail and a deep understanding of what trail running represents – community, connection, and a shared responsibility to the places we run. We sat down with both of them recently when they stopped by KEEN HQ to chat about what they love about the sport and why they chose to be part of KEEN’s launch into trail running.

Jeff Browning: Born to Run (With a Leg Brace)

Jeff will represent KEEN across some of the most iconic trail races in North America and abroad, and his 25 years of ultra-racing experience will be woven into KEEN trail running products.

What he loves most about trail running:

“I am all about the experience. I love being outside. I am an outdoor kid at heart – always have been, always will. I haven't lost any of the joy. The stoke of being in the woods, flowing in wild places like the Grand Canyon or the San Juans in southwestern Colorado or the Pacific Northwest.”

What excites him most about joining KEEN:

“I came to KEEN for the innovation in footwear. Shoes are your gear. You’re looking for the ultimate Shangri-La shoe, and I felt like KEEN is set up for me to help bring that to reality.”

“I am a goal-oriented person. I need a carrot. So for me, everything’s a goal… whether it’s a race, life, whatever it is.”

Krissy Moehl: Running for Community and Connection

As an athlete, running coach, author, race director, and podcast host, Krissy is passionate about building community and mentoring the next generation of ultra runners of all ages.

When she started running:

“As long as I remember, I've been a runner. I'd always played soccer, so running around soccer fields or whatever, but I got invited to be on a track and field team, and I ran the half mile. And then my freshman year of high school, I was asked to run on the cross country team, and I was the very last human to finish. I just love that that's part of my story.”

What she loves about trail running:

“My biggest point of passion for running is watching other people achieve things they didn't think were possible. As a race director, having people cross my finish line with that look of wonderment and accomplishment at their own body, that still jazzes me.”

What excites her most about joining KEEN:

“I am a big-time community people person. I want to be aligned with something that has roots and community and established values that align with mine.”

In her words:

“Listen to your body. What is your body telling you? What can you get out of your body? Training is an opportunity to learn about self. My training, I would say, is highly motivated by getting out with other individuals and understanding the world through our conversations that happen side by side.”

Stewarding the Earth Beneath Our Feet

4 MIN WATCH

Stewarding the Earth Beneath Our Feet

Earth changes people. In the pursuit of encouraging access to public lands, whose responsibility is it to protect the ground that shapes us?

Through the voices of runners and advocates, the film “The Earth Beneath Our Feet” follows Krissy Moehl, Runners for Public Lands (RPL), and KEEN as we work to expand access to the outdoors and protect the places that shape who we become. This story is part of the Game On series, presented by Laureus Sport for Good and produced by BBC StoryWorks and is set in the trails of Ventura, California. The film explores how trail running can inspire stewardship and how a shared belief that nature should be accessible to everyone has grown into a partnership that turns purpose into action.

“We really believe that outside is for everyone,” says Scott Robertson, part of the team behind KEEN Trail Running. “So with our partnership with RPL, we’re using our position in the industry and our megaphone to help amplify their mission of protecting public lands and increasing access to nature.”

This video was produced for KEEN by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions.

The Newport Sandal: Unique Style for Creative People

Who Wears the World's Ugliest Sandal?

We think like begets like, good vibes beget good vibes, and that the only thing more original than our original hybrid sandal, the Newport, is the person who's wearing it.

With over 30 million pairs of Newport sandals sold since 2003, that's a whole lot of originality out there in the world … like these three New Yorkers who are following their passion to make the world a more together, happy place through the things they make.

Nora Creates Together Spaces

Who: Nora O'Neil, co-owner of Friends of Form

What: She followed her heart to go from hobbyist to entrepreneur when she co-founded a vintage furniture studio in Brooklyn during the pandemic.

“Through my work, I feel like I’m able to achieve what matters most - bringing people together. I believe in the power of design to enrich our lives, because what is good for the individual contributes to the greater good of the community.”

Why Newport: “I now live in New York City but was born & raised in Boulder, Colorado. Being outside is integral to who I am and KEEN has always been a household name. For me, staying connected to nature is a top priority. When off-duty, I love spending time with my Great Dane, camping, and creating unique floral arrangements.”

Gia Creates With Her Hands (and Legs)

Who: Gia Seo, founder of Department Of, Inc.

What: This self-proclaimed "sock-fluencer" rocks socks & sandals while running her creative studio.

“We all work with our hands, one way or another, and whether it's with a paintbrush, a spoon, a welding saw we are all creating art most days.”

Alex Creates and Creates and Creates

Who: Alex Gowon, photographer and creator of GOON artzine

What: Alex is a former dancer who followed his love of creativity into photography, music, and zine creation.

Why Newport: “Historically for me I’ve always seen the Newport as a utility shoe because I grew up around people hiking in them. Because photography is quite physical, they also work super well shooting around the city when you’re running around trying to grab angles. As a creative, I seek individuality and originality in my work. It is forever inspiring to see brands like KEEN creating something visually and aesthetically original to them.”

We have a special place in our heart for makers. Making the most original, versatile, durable, comfortable, and Consciously Created shoes is what gets us out of bed every morning. But it's seeing folks out there living a life of originality with unique style and good vibes that gets us through that mid-afternoon lull with smiles on our faces.

How to Go Camping with Your Dog

Make no bones about it, spending time outside together is one of the highlights of being a dog-parent. The combination of fresh air, beautiful views, and the music of chittering birds and the wind rustling across the landscape never disappoints.

One of our favorite ways to soak-in outside time with our dogs is to take them camping. But, for those new to camping, or those new to camping with canines, figuring out what to pack and how to make the experience low on the stress scale (or stress-free!) can be overwhelming. To help get you started, we answered some of the most commonly asked questions about camping with your dog.

Three kids climbing on playground rope structure wearing close toed KEEN sneakers and sandals
Can I Camp With My Dog Anywhere?
Although more and more places are becoming dog-friendly (yay!), it’s always best to check for any red tape before you plan a weekend away. There’s nothing worse than showing up to camp and spotting a “NO DOGS ALLOWED” sign, so if you have any doubts, call ahead.
What Should I Feed My Dog At Camp?
If you’re car camping or staying in a developed campground where pack weight isn’t a concern, bringing dry kibble, or whatever regular dog food your pup eats, is as easy as throwing a container in the car. Always remember to introduce any diet changes gradually and in advance.
Do We Share A Sleeping Bag?
The simple answer is, it depends. Is your dog a professional cuddler? Or do they prefer to have their own space while they sleep? You can also keep things simple by bringing a warm dog jacket and an easy-to-pack dog bed.
How Can I Leave No Trace?
It’s always best practice to leave the places you visit at least as good as they were when you arrived. Or, better yet, leave them better than you found them. Clean up your doggo’s poop using pick-up bags, and dispose of the filled bags in an appropriate trash can or disposal site.
Socks or booties?
These can be especially important during hot weather. Hot surfaces can burn and damage sensitive dog paws so it’s always important to keep an eye on the temperature of the ground (even sand can be scalding!) throughout the day.
Anything else?
Every new experience comes with a learning curve. But, with a little love from your four-legged bestie, enthusiasm for being outside, and lots of excellent snacks (never forget to pack snacks!), that learning curve can go from steep to joyful. So, grab your gear, kiss your pup, and head outside to enjoy a night (or few) under the stars.
